Engaged Scholarship and Smart Social Governance Workshop

Universities locating in the interface of the society, state, and market are supposed to be a perfect platform for cooperative governance. In the modern western world, universities tend to be integrated into a triple-helix structure in which universities, governments, and enterprises work together to earn mutual benefits. In contrast, the higher education systems in many state-led economies have manifested a patron-client feature in which the university served as a client of the state to govern the society. Under what conditions would the higher education institutions work with the society to pursue a just and sustainable development?
